To identify and interpret literary devices

To develop an understanding of literature through interpretation and analysis
To analyze the development of the characters in The Odyssey
To identify the themes in The Odyssey
Themes
Respect for the gods is essential for survival.
There is moral justice in the world in that wrongdoing is eventually punished.
Self-control or the ability to retain one's emotions and appetites is an essential quality in a civilized person.
A person must show courage and cleverness to overcome obstacles and achieve goals.
