Reminders

Bring the Literature book and the GUM book to class everyday.

The second summer read assignment is due on Thursday, September 16, 2010. If you have misplaced the handout that outlines the instruction, pick up another one from the podium.

Literary reviews will be checked on Wednesday, September 15, 2010.

There will be a major test (the short story unit) on Monday, September 20, 2010.

Objectives

To demonstrate mastery of the eight parts of speech

To identify and demonstrate an understanding of the elements of a short story (plot, character, point of view, setting, and theme)

To demonstrate an understanding of vocabulary appropriate to grade level

To draw inferences

To identify and distinguish between the parts of a sentence (subject, linking verb, action verb, direct object, indirect object, predicate nominative, and predicate adjective

Monday

Place the vocabulary flashcards in the brown bag; make certain that your name is on the cover or first card.
